Include commentary on verbatimModuleSyntax -- I tried many combinations of config and just couldn't get it working. The other thing we could do is apply to a separate jest tsconfig, but it appears to have no impact either way so this is the easier path for now.

Add alias path resolution for jest, fix sources. Drop unused defaults
(that may not even be accurate anymore after many version bumps?) --
when editing this please refer to the appropriate config documentation
online.
