* * Add proper context handling to auth.AuthenticateUser.
* Move PublicKey field to AuthenticateUserRequest where it can be used
for actual authentication.
* Use a simple switch statement in /webapi/ssh/certs logic to switch
between password, otp, and eventually headless login.
* Add Headless flow to /webapi/ssh/certs login enpdoint.
* Add 3 minute callback timeout.
The session cache routine to purge expired sessions would not consider
a session which was not found in the cache or backend to be expired.
It would instead defer to the expiry of the session token. This results
in a window after a user has logged out for that session to still be
considered valid by any Proxy which did not process the logout request.
On logout the Proxy manually removes the session from the cache. So in
an HA configuration there is an inconsistent state between Proxies after
a user logs out which results in #197.
To remedy this the expiration routine should consider all sessions which
were not found in the cache/backend to be expired and purge them from
their session cache. This causes all Proxies to honor the logout as soon
as the deletion of the web session is processed.
Closes#197
* Prevent race from causing remote clients from being closed
`web.SessionContext` was susceptible to races retrieving `auth.ClientI`
for remote sites. The mutex on the remote client cache was not held for
the duration of the `GetUserClient` which meant two simultaneous requests
could find no client existed in the cache, create one and then add it to
the cache. When the second client is added to the cache it would close the
first client created, which results in the `use of closed network connection`
error displaying on the web UI as described in #17173.
To remedy this the portion of `GetUserClient` that retrieves the remote client
is now protected by a `singleflight.Group`. This ensures that races on creating
a client no longer happen.
`web.SessionContext` was slightly refactored to make it easier to test, to
remove some unnecessary operations, and to provide `context.Context` to `GetUserClient`.
Additionally, all `web.SessionContext` variables which were named `ctx` in `lib/web`
have been renamed to avoid confusion as that often refers to a `context.Context`.
Fixes#17173
Updates auth.ClientI to require that both methods take a
context.Context as the first argument. Context propogation required
some additional call sites to ensure the proper context is plumbed
down to the auth.ClientI calls.
* Add CSRF mitigations
This commit includes two fixes:
1. Enforce an application/json Content-Type server-side.
2. When checking the bearer token, verify that the user
associated with the token matches the user associated
with the cookie.
* Fix TEL-Q122-13: Access Requests Denial Of Service Via Request Reason (#125) (#127)
* Ignore input when data flow is off in TermManager
When data flow is disabled in TermManager (at the beginning or when TermManager.Off was called) we should ignore all input we receive (currently we buffer it)
* Agent forwarding socket security fix.

* Add client side circuit breaker to auth clients
In order to apply back pressure we can utilize a circuit breaker that
monitors error responses from auth server. When tripped it will prevent
all outbound requests to auth for a period of time. This can also help
prevent a potential thundering heard when auth is in an unhealthy state.
By default the circuit breaker will only be tripped if 90% of the
requests made in the monitoring interval fail.

This deprecation was kind of a pain, because x509.CertPool becomes
a black box - there is no public API to determine how many certs
have been added to the pool. To account for this, some of our method
signatures needed to be updated to report the number of certs that
were added.
* Fix goroutine and memory leak in watchCertAuthorities
The CA Watcher was blocking both on writing to a channel when the watcher
was closed and on HTTP calls that had no request timeout or context passed
to cause cancellation.
All resourceWatcher implementations that had a bug which may cause them to block
on writing to a channel forever were fixed by selecting on the write and ctx.Done.
Adding context.Context to all Get/Put/Post/Delete methods on the auth HTTPClient to
force callers to propagate context. Prior all calls used context.TODO which
prevents requests from being properly cancelled.
Add context propagation to RotateCertAuthority, RotateExternalCertAuthority,
GetCertAuthority, GetCertAuthorities. This is needed to get the correct ctx
from the CertAtuhorityWatcher all the way down to the HTTPClient that makes
the call.
Closes#10648
Alias the "u2f" second factor mode to "webauthn", effectively sunsetting U2F in
favor of WebAuthn.
The change effectively disables "U2F mode" server-side, making Teleport use
WebAuthn instead. This is in line with our compatibility promise, as Teleport
8.x clients are already WebAuthn-capable (and thus have no problems talking to
the cluster).
I have cleaned up a good chunk of U2F references in lib/web and lib/client, plus
a few other places. Changes on lib/auth are just the necessary to get the tests
back to good standing. There is more work to be done, but this seems enough for
a single PR.
#10375
* Remove "Disabled" field from types.Webauthn
* Update generated protos
* Treat second_factor "u2f" as "webauthn"
* Remove references to Webauthn.Disabled
* Remove U2F from lib/web/
* Remove U2F from lib/client/
* Remove U2F from lib/auth/ (partially)
* Fix issues after rebase on master
* Fix typo
One endpoint is now responsible for creating/returning
MFA register challenges:
- Deprecates RotateUserTokenSecrets
- Deprecates GetSignupU2FRegisterRequest
Created a new rpc `CreateAuthenticateChallenge` that
replaces/deprecates `GetMFAAuthenticateChallenge`
Allows 3 ways to invoke this request:
1. with username + password
2. with token ID (username retrieved from token)
3. with empty request (username retrieved from context)
Allow login using Webauthn instead of U2F.
Installs with second_factor:on will automatically support Webauthn, generating
challenges for any U2F devices and allowing Webauthn to be used throughout the
entire login process.
Web REST API modified as follows:
Added /webapi/mfa/login/begin (1st login step)
Added /webapi/mfa/login/finish (2nd login step, SSH)
Added /webapi/mfa/login/finishsession (2nd login step, web session)
U2F endpoints deprecated, but support full breadth of MFA login options
(/webapi/u2f/signrequest, /webapi/u2f/certs and /webapi/u2f/sessions,
respectively)
Auth REST API modified as follows:
Added /:version/mfa/users/:user/login/begin (1st login step)
ssh/authenticate and web/authenticate now support Webauthn (2nd login step)
U2F endpoints deprecated, but support full breadth of MFA options as well
(/:version/u2f/users/:user/sign)

* Plug Webauthn into MFAAuth protos
* Generate protos
* Make CredentialAssertionResponse json-friendly
* Add Webauthn proto conversions
* Wire Webauthn to auth apiserver
* Wire Webauthn login to web apiserver
* Wire Webauthn to web login
* Add missing license headers
* Delete login_identity_test.go
* Use previously acquired devices on mfaAuthChallenge
* Take U2F App ID literally if it's not a proper URL
* Add direct tests for auth.Server
* Use trace.BadParameter consistently
* Include user name in "failed to authenticate" logs
* Add more login-related tests to auth.Server
Fixed two issues that were causing a performance issue with the Web UI.
The first issue was that when an "Authorizer" was being created at
process startup by Auth Service, it was by-passing the cache and always
hitting the backend directly. All services have been updated to now use
an cached access point.
The second issue was that the Web UI was not using the local cache when
fetching the list of roles for a user. The Web UI has been updated to
now use the local cached access point.
- Preserve login time with WebSession when user first creates a web session to derive
"default" expiry when user wants to switch back
- Change the signature of ExtendWebSession to accept a
NewWebSessionRequest struct that contains session information
- Create renewSessionRequest object to read from web request for endpoint renewSession
- Endpoint now also returns SessionExpires time that is used as countdown in UI
* Added support for connecting API client through tunnel proxy and web proxy addresses (with identity file).
* Added concurrent dialing logic to dial several possible dialing combinations and seamlessly return the first client to connect.
* mfa: put device UUID in MFAVerified cert extensions
Instead of just a bool, add the device UUID. This will be used in audit
events when a session is started using MFA-issued certs.
* Add WithMFA to session-related audit events
Also extract a common function for parsing SSH certs.
* mfa: add new second_factor options "on" and "optional"
"on" means that 2FA is required for all users, either TOTP or U2F.
"optional" means that 2FA is supported for all users, but not required.
Only users with MFA devices registered will be prompted for 2FA on
login.
The login with both supported methods is using the same API as the U2F
login. It just now supports TOTP in addition. The API endpoints are
still named after "u2f", I'll rename those in a future PR (in a
backwards-compatible way).

After adding several U2F tokens with `tsh mfa add`, you can now `tsh
login` using any of those tokens.
Two caveats:
1. The MFA method you get prompted for on login depends on the
`second_factor` config field on the auth server. There isn't yet an
option to require _either_ TOTP or U2F yet, even if you have both kinds
registered.
2. Web logins still need updating.
Also a few small unrelated changes:
- remove u2f-host binary presence check and docs
- hide `tsh mfa` commands until the feature is complete
* Use fake clock consistently in units tests.
* Split web session management into two interfaces and implement them separately for clear separation
* Split session management into New/Validate to make it aparent where the sessions are created and where existing sessions are managed. Remove ttlmap in favor of a simple map and handle expirations
explicitly.
Add web session management to gRPC server for the cache.
* Reintroduce web sessions APIs under a getter interface.
* Add SubKind to WatchKind for gRPC and add conversions from/to protobuf. Fix web sessions unit tests.
* lib/web: create/insert session context in ValidateSession if the session has not yet been added to session cache.
lib/cache: add event filter for web session in auth cache.
lib/auth: propagate web session subkind in gRPC event.
* Add implicit migrations for legacy web session key path for queries.
* Integrate web token in lib/web
* Add a bearer token when upserting a web session
* Fix tests. Use fake clock wherever possible.
* Converge session cache handling in lib/web
* Clean up and add doc comments where necessary
* Use correct form of sessions/tokens controller for ServerWithRoles. Use fake time in web tests
* Converge the web sessions/tokens handling in lib/auth to match the old behavior w.r.t access checking (e.g. implicit handling of the local user identity).
* Use cached reads and waiters only when necessary. Query sessions/tokens using best-effort - first looking in the cache and falling back to a proxy client
* Properly propagate events about deletes for values with subkind.
* Update to retrofit changes after recent teleport API refactorings
* Update comment on removing legacy code to move the deadline to 7.x
* Do not close the resources on the session when it expires - this beats the purpose of this PR.
Also avoid a race between closing the cached clients and an existing reference to the session by letting the session linger for longer before removing it.
* Move web session/token request structs to the api client proto package
* Only set HTTP fs on the web handler if the UI is enabled
* Properly tear down web session test by releasing resources at the end. Fix the web UI assets configuration by removing DisableUI and instead use the presence of assets (HTTP file system) as an indicator that the web UI has been enabled.
* Decrease the expired session cache clean up threshold to 2m. Only log the expiration error message for errors other than not found
* Add test for terminal disconnect when using two proxies in HA mode
