Direct connections to repo.maven.apache.org are frequently TLS-reset behind the GFW, so the Aliyun public mirror is consulted before mavenCentral. The foojay toolchain resolver plugin lets Gradle download the required JDK toolchain instead of failing when the local JDK does not match the target version.
