Nicola Soranzo 6ab35f4817 Fix error message from `ExpressionValidator` ...

when the expression could not be evaluated. Previously the message
would be:
```
Validator '<code object <module> at 0x7fcfdf6737c0, file "<string>", line 1>' could not be evaluated on '%s'
```

Also, move doc tests to unit tests.
