Functional Programming

Functional programming treats computation as the evaluation of pure functions, avoiding shared state and mutable data where possible. This style makes code easier to test and reason about, since functions with no side effects behave predictably given the same input. Concepts from functional programming, like immutability and pure functions, increasingly appear even in languages that are not purely functional.
