Usage Best Practices

Effective utilization of Claude Code involves adopting key strategies for optimal performance and long-term efficiency. This begins with a "Plan First, Implement Second" approach, especially for complex tasks, utilizing Plan Mode to allow Claude to create a plan before altering the source code. Maintaining a CLAUDE.md file as a project's central knowledge repository with relevant information, such as build commands and style guides, is crucial. Context management, through regular use of the /compact command and new conversations for separate tasks, helps mitigate performance degradation. Finally, automating routine processes, like generating Git commits with claude commit or setting up hooks, ensures efficiency and consistency throughout the development lifecycle.
