The `DateRangePicker` accepts a `now` prop that stories and tests use to
pin preset ranges and future-date disabling to a deterministic clock,
but it never forwarded that value to the underlying `Calendar`.
`react-day-picker` then computed its own `today` from wall-clock time,
which drives both the "today" highlight modifier and the initial visible
month — causing stories like `TemplateInsightsControls:Day` to _flake_
as real time advanced.
Thread `currentTime` into `react-day-picker`'s `today` prop. When `now`
is omitted (production usage), `currentTime` falls back to `new Date()`,
which matches `react-day-picker`'s existing default, so there is no
runtime behavior change.
Fixes three classes of edit_files bugs and adds structured per-file
diff output for tool callers:
- New IncludeDiff flag on FileEditRequest; when set, the agent
returns FileEditResponse.Files[]{Path, Diff} with unified diffs
computed via go-udiff v0.4.1 Lines + ToUnified (not Unified,
which calls log.Fatalf on internal error).
- Fuzzy match comparators split each line into leading whitespace,
body, trailing whitespace, and ending. The splice substitutes at
each position: on agreement between search and replace the file's
bytes win; on disagreement the replacement's bytes are spliced
verbatim. Carve-outs for empty-body lines, multi-line EOF splices,
and level-aware indent translation for inserted lines.
- Indent-unit detection (GCD for spaces, tab-priority) lets a 4sp
LLM search insert correctly into tab or 2sp files. Falls back to
the previous cLead-inheritance path when units can't be detected
cleanly.
- Empty search is rejected with "search string must not be empty".
- Duplicate file paths in one request are rejected; symlink aliases
resolved via api.resolvePath before the dedup check.
- Frontend EditFilesRenderer consumes the structured files array by
explicit path (no label munging) with per-file synthetic fallback
for older agents or mismatched paths. On error, no diff is
rendered so the synthetic fallback doesn't misrepresent a
rejected edit as applied.
Breaking change: AgentConn.EditFiles changes from (ctx, req) error
to (ctx, req) (FileEditResponse, error) in codersdk/workspacesdk.
Source-breaking for external Go consumers; no compat shim per plan
owner.
Out of scope (tracked in CODAGT-214): level-aware indent for
middle-substituted splice lines. Locked in
TestEditFiles_FuzzyIndent_InsertionLevelAware's Lock_* cases plus
TestEditFiles_ReplaceAll_FuzzyIndentGap.
The shadcn-compatible CSS aliases (`--background`, `--foreground`,
`--muted`,
`--muted-foreground`, `--primary`, `--primary-foreground`) were added as
part
of the Coder agents work with hardcoded HSL values that duplicated
existing
semantic design tokens. These non-standard color classes (`bg-muted`,
`text-muted-foreground`, `text-foreground`) had started spreading
through
components like Table, MultiUserSelect, and WorkspacesTable.
This PR makes two changes:
1. **CSS aliases now derive from canonical tokens via `var()`
references**
instead of duplicating HSL values. The aliases remain for `streamdown`
and other external consumers, but `--background` now resolves to
`--surface-primary` (`#FFFFFF` in light, was `#FAFAFA`), and the rest
map to their semantic equivalents (`--content-primary`,
`--surface-secondary`, `--content-secondary`, `--content-link`).
2. **Component classes replaced with semantic equivalents:**
- `bg-muted` → `bg-surface-secondary`
- `text-muted-foreground` → `text-content-secondary`
- `text-foreground` → `text-content-primary`
- `text-amber-400` → `text-content-warning`
- `hsl(var(--background))` → `hsl(var(--surface-primary))`
- `hsl(var(--muted-foreground))` → `hsl(var(--content-secondary))`

After password login, `navigate('/')` performed a client-side SPA
navigation, leaving the pre-authentication `<meta>` tags (including
`userAppearance`) empty in the DOM. The `ThemeProvider` read empty
metadata and fell through to `DEFAULT_THEME` until the API query
resolved, causing a visible flash of the wrong theme. A page refresh
fixed it because the server re-rendered HTML with the session cookie
present.
Replace `navigate('/')` with `window.location.href` so the server
re-renders HTML with all metadata tags populated (`userAppearance`,
`user`, `permissions`, etc.) via the new session cookie. This matches
the pattern already used for API route redirects on the same page. Also
uses `redirectTo` instead of hardcoded "/" so the redirect query
parameter is respected for password login.

- Chose `window.location.href` over invalidating React Query caches
because a hard reload is the only way to get fresh server-rendered meta
tags. The API query approach still has a flash between mount and
response.
- Sanitized redirect URL with `redirectUrl.pathname` (same as existing
`<Navigate>` path) to prevent open redirects via absolute URLs.
- Removed unused `useNavigate` import.

Introduce Explore mode, a read-only subagent modality for delegated
discovery and code investigation.
## What
Adds a `spawn_explore_agent` tool that creates child chats restricted to
read-only operations. An admin can optionally configure a
deployment-wide
model override so Explore subagents use a model optimized for large
context
or reasoning without changing the root chat's model.
### Backend
- New `ChatModeExplore` enum value (migration 000471).
- `spawn_explore_agent` tool definition with read-only allowlist:
`read_file`, `execute`, `process_output`, `read_skill`,
`read_skill_file`.
Write tools, file editors, and nested subagent spawning are blocked.
- Deployment config storage for the Explore model override
(`agents_chat_explore_model_override` in `site_configs`).
- Model resolution hierarchy: configured override, then current turn
model,
then global default. Silent fallback with warning log when the override
becomes unavailable.
- RBAC: `AsChatd` for daemon reads, `ActionRead` and `ActionUpdate` on
`ResourceDeploymentConfig` for admin API calls.
- Plan mode root chats can use `spawn_explore_agent` for read-only
research,
matching the planning prompt guidance.
- The Explore override config API now reports malformed saved overrides
as
"treated as unset" so admins can clear them explicitly.
### Frontend
- `ExploreModelOverrideSettings` component in admin agent behavior
settings.
Uses `ModelSelector`, handles unavailable model warnings, and supports
explicit Save and Clear actions.
- Malformed saved overrides show a warning and require an explicit Save
to
clear, instead of Clear auto-submitting behind the scenes.
### Tests
- Integration: `TestExploreSubagentIsReadOnly` (full spawn flow, tool
verification, prompt overlay, DB state).
- Unit: tool allowlist tests for explore, plan, and default modes.
- Internal: model override resolution with valid, invalid UUID,
disabled, and
unconfigured override scenarios.
- RBAC: `dbauthz_test.go` for `GetChatExploreModelOverride` and
`UpsertChatExploreModelOverride`.
- API: admin set and clear, malformed stored override reporting,
disabled
model rejection, non-admin denial.
Relates to https://linear.app/codercom/issue/CODAGT-103
- Add `keywords={[option.label]}` to `CommandItem` in
`MultiSelectCombobox` so cmdk's default filter matches against the
visible label text, not just the value (UUID)
- Extend `OpenCombobox` story with type-to-filter assertions
- Add "search filters by display name" step to `TemplateAllowlist` story

Add a `chat_client_type` enum (`ui` | `api`) and `client_type` column to
the `chats` table. The column defaults to `api` for new rows so API
callers don't need to set it explicitly. Existing rows are backfilled to
`ui`.
The field flows through `CreateChatRequest`, `chatd.CreateOptions`,
`InsertChat`, and is returned in the `Chat` response via `db2sdk`.
<details>
<summary>Implementation notes (Coder Agents generated)</summary>
### Changes
**Database migration (000469)**
- New enum `chat_client_type` with values `ui`, `api`.
- New `client_type` column, `NOT NULL DEFAULT 'api'`.
- Backfill: `UPDATE chats SET client_type = 'ui'`.
**SQL query** — `InsertChat` now includes `client_type`.
**SDK** — `ChatClientType` type added; `ClientType` field added to both
`CreateChatRequest` (optional, defaults server-side to `api`) and `Chat`
response.
**Handler** — `postChats` maps the request field (defaulting to `api`)
and passes it through `chatd.CreateOptions`.
**Sub-agent** — Child chats inherit their parent's `client_type`.
**db2sdk** — Maps the database value to the SDK type.
### Decision log
- Default is `api` (not `ui`) so existing API integrations get the
correct value without code changes.
- Backfill sets existing rows to `ui` per requirement.
- Child chats inherit `client_type` from parent rather than defaulting.

Dependabot's npm updater now ships Node.js v24.14.1 (Active LTS
"Krypton"). The `engines.node` field in `site/package.json` and
`offlinedocs/package.json` restricted to `>=18.0.0 <23.0.0`, causing
`ERR_PNPM_UNSUPPORTED_ENGINE` failures when Dependabot tried to update
packages (e.g. the `axios` security update).
Widens the upper bound to `<25.0.0` so Node.js 24.x is accepted. The
project itself continues to use Node 22 via `flake.nix`.

Agent log tabs could spill over the Copy/Download area, and the overflow
kebab sometimes never wired up because ResizeObserver ran with no node
or while inactive. This ties the hook to when the strip is real and
clips the tab column.
- `AgentRow`: `enabled` for `useKebabMenu` is `hasStartupFeatures &&
hasAnyLogs && showLogs`; `hasAnyLogs` is computed before the hook; tab
list wrapper gets `overflow-hidden`.
- `useKebabMenu`: attach `ResizeObserver` in `useLayoutEffect`; bail if
missing container or `!enabled || !isActive`; deps include `enabled` and
`isActive`.
- `TabsList` (`overflowKebabMenu`): add `min-w-0 w-full max-w-full` with
`flex-nowrap` so the list stays inside the flex column.
This pull-request ensures that we don't rely on MUI for something that
doesn't need to be MUI-specific (hurrah!)
The issues with the accessibility persist however.

## Summary
- add persistent plan mode for chats and the chat-specific plan file
flow
- add structured planning tools such as `ask_user_question` and
`propose_plan`
- keep `write_file` and `edit_files` constrained to the chat-specific
plan file during plan turns
- allow shell exploration in plan mode, including subagents, via
`execute` and `process_output`
- block implementation-oriented, provider-native, MCP, dynamic, and
computer-use tools during plan turns
- update the chat UI, tests, and docs for the new planning flow
## Summary
Adds `--ai-gateway-allow-byok` deployment option to control whether
users can use Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) mode with AI Gateway.
When disabled (`--ai-gateway-allow-byok=false`), BYOK requests are
rejected with a 403 and a message directing the admin to enable the
flag. Centralized key authentication works regardless of this setting.
Defaults to `true` (BYOK allowed).

## Summary
Fixes the "See all templates" link overlapping template items in the New
Workspace dropdown.
## Root cause
Two compounding issues:
1. **`OverflowY` className was being overwritten, not merged.** The
component spread `...attrs` (which included the caller's `className`)
onto the div, silently replacing its own base classes
(`overflow-y-auto`, `shrink`, `w-full`). This meant the template list
never scrolled independently.
2. **`PopoverContent` has `overflow-y-auto` in its base styles.** With
the inner `OverflowY` not scrolling, the *entire popover* became the
scroll container. The "See all templates" footer was part of that
scrollable flow and overlapped template rows as the user scrolled.
## Fix
- **`OverflowY`**: Destructure `className` explicitly and merge it with
the base classes using `cn()` so `overflow-y-auto` and `shrink` are
always preserved.
- **`PopoverContent`**: Add `overflow-hidden flex flex-col` to make it a
non-scrolling flex container. Only the `OverflowY` child scrolls.
- **`OverflowY` usage**: Add `min-h-0` so the flex child can shrink
below its content size when the popover's available height is
constrained.

Addresses review findings from #23827 that were added post-merge:
- Persisted attachments now store `organizationId`; mismatched orgs
pruned on restore
- Workspace selection reconciliation: stale IDs from previous orgs
dropped via derived `effectiveWorkspaceId`
- Org picker uses `permittedOrganizations()` for RBAC-aware filtering
- Org picker hidden when user belongs to only one org
- Ref-sync `useEffect` replaced with `useEffectEvent`
- `CreateWorkspace()` and `ListTemplates()` take `organizationID` and
`db` as required function parameters instead of optional struct fields —
compiler enforces them, removes scattered nil guards
- Cross-org template check in `CreateWorkspace` is now unconditional
- `ListTemplates` org-scoping filter now has test coverage
- `setupChatInfra` comment fixed; test helpers use params structs
instead of positional UUIDs
- Enterprise test documents that org admin only sees own chats (handler
hardcodes `OwnerID` — future work needs sidebar UI before lifting that
restriction)

## Summary
- Support multiple instances of the same AI Bridge provider type via
indexed env vars (`CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_<N>_<KEY>`), following the
`CODER_EXTERNAL_AUTH_<N>_<KEY>` pattern
- Existing single-provider env vars (`CODER_AIBRIDGE_OPENAI_KEY`, etc.)
continue to work unchanged
- Setting both a legacy env var and an indexed provider with the same
name errors at startup to prevent silent misconfiguration
- Mark legacy provider fields (`OpenAI`, `Anthropic`, `Bedrock`) as
deprecated in `AIBridgeConfig` in favor of `Providers`
## Example
```sh
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_0_TYPE=anthropic
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_0_NAME=anthropic-corp
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_0_KEY=sk-ant-corp-xxx
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_0_BASE_URL=https://llm-proxy.internal.example.com/anthropic
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_1_TYPE=anthropic
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_1_NAME=anthropic-direct
CODER_AIBRIDGE_PROVIDER_1_KEY=sk-ant-direct-yyy
```
Each instance is routed by name:
- /api/v2/aibridge/**anthropic-corp**/v1/messages
- /api/v2/aibridge/**anthropic-direct**/v1/messages

Previously we reserved some env vars that may collide with AI gateway.
These were incomplete and take away flexibility from the user, which
we're prioritizing in the first iteration of the feature.
The vitest process hung after all 2132 story tests passed because
leftover refetchInterval polls kept the Node.js event loop alive.
Components that set per-query refetchInterval override the
QueryClient default, causing HTTP requests through vite's proxy
to localhost:3000 (no backend) that never resolve cleanly.
Three fixes:
- preview.tsx: disable all automatic refetching defaults and cancel
in-flight queries on story unmount via useEffect cleanup
- storybook.tsx: save/restore the original window.WebSocket in the
withWebSocket decorator, clear pending timers in close()
- vite.config.mts: add explicit testTimeout, hookTimeout, bail, and
retry settings to the storybook vitest project
Also fix 5 story files that imported from @testing-library/react
instead of storybook/test.

Chats sharing one workspace (e.g. sibling subagents) all wrote to
`/home/coder/PLAN.md`, causing plan file collisions. This change derives
a unique plan path per chat from the workspace home directory and chat
ID.
## Changes
* `write_file`, `edit_files`, and `propose_plan` reject any `plan.md`
variant (case-insensitive) at the workspace home root, with a clear
error pointing to the chat-specific path.
* Root chats receive a `<plan-file-path>` block inlined in the main
system prompt with the concrete path.
* Prompt and tool descriptions no longer hardcode `/home/coder/PLAN.md`.
* Plan path handling is POSIX-only (forward-slash), relying on the
contract that workspace agent paths are normalized before reaching
chatd.
* Updated `ProposePlanTool.stories.tsx` to use per-chat path examples.
* Full test coverage for plan path detection, legacy-path rejection in
all three tools, inline prompt rendering, and fallback behavior.
* Removes experiment `web-push`.
* Falls back to NoopWebpusher in case of error
* Checks browser capability in FE
* Adds note to agents getting-started docs regarding webpush without TLS

## What
Fixes the `TestSVGIconAttributes/texlive.svg` CI failure introduced by
#24312.
Two changes:
1. **Fix `texlive.svg` viewBox**: Changed from `0 0 1024 1024` to `0 0
256 256` (wrapping content in `<g transform="scale(0.25)">` to preserve
rendering). Also cleaned up non-standard attributes (`version`, `style`,
`preserveAspectRatio`) to match other icons.
2. **Add icon/theme paths to CI go filter**: Added `site/static/icon/**`
and `site/src/theme/**` to the `go` path filter in `ci.yaml` so Go tests
(`test-go-pg`, `test-go-pg-17`, `test-go-race-pg`) run when icons or
theme config change. This is why the failure wasn't caught on the PR —
only `site/` files were modified, so Go tests were skipped entirely.
Closes https://github.com/coder/internal/issues/1468
Adds a user preference to remove the `max-w-3xl` constraint on agent
chat messages, letting the content fill the available viewport width.
The toggle lives in **Agents > Settings > Behavior** under "Chat Layout"
and persists via `localStorage` (`agents.chat-full-width`). A
`useSyncExternalStore` hook (`useChatFullWidth`) provides same-tab
reactivity so flipping the toggle updates all mounted consumers
immediately — the chat timeline, chat input, the Suspense skeleton, and
the in-page loading view.
This was requested by a customer and is an individual user setting, so
it seems fine to add.
Adds a small LinearProgress (determinate + MUI-style dual-bar
indeterminate) and uses it on workspace build progress; drops MUI and
adds Tailwind keyframes + Storybook stories.
- New component under `site/src/components/LinearProgress/`
- `WorkspaceBuildProgress` switched off `@mui/material/LinearProgress`
- Added `bar-indeterminate` / `bar-indeterminate-2` animation keyframes

`OrganizationAutocomplete` declared `options: Organization[]` (mutable),
but `useDashboard().organizations` returns `readonly Organization[]`.
Callers forced to spread to satisfy the type even though the component
never mutates the array.
While fixing this, found two more issues with how organization context
is resolved:
- `AgentCreateForm`, `ChatPageContent`, and `OrganizationRedirect` used
`organizations[0]` assuming the default org is first — nothing
guarantees that ordering.
- `ChatPageInput` was guessing the org from `useDashboard()` for file
uploads on existing chats, even though the chat already has
`organization_id`. In multi-org deployments, uploads could land in the
wrong org.
Changes:
- Widen `OrganizationAutocomplete` `options` to `readonly
Organization[]`
- Remove unnecessary `[...organizations]` spread in `AgentCreateForm`
- Replace all `organizations[0]` with `.find(o => o.is_default) ??
organizations[0]` for users not in the default org
- Eliminate `[...organizations].sort()` allocation in
`OrganizationRedirect` with direct `.find()` lookups (equivalent
priority: editable default → any editable → viewable default → any
viewable)
- Thread `chat.organization_id` from `AgentChatPage` →
`AgentChatPageView` → `ChatPageInput` so file uploads use the chat's
actual org instead of guessing

Add secret value validation to reject null bytes and values exceeding 32KB.
The 32KB limit applies uniformly to both env var and file secrets because the

bytes.
Wire up secret value validation into both POST and PATCH handlers.
Replaces remaining MUI `<Skeleton />` usages with our shared `Skeleton`

- Remove a few MUI-specific skeleton patterns at callsites
- De-mui adjacent Emotion styles
- Simplify filter layout handling with class-based responsive wrapping
